Debut as a Librettist!

In 2022 I was honoured to receive an email from Arts & Climate Initiative (who run the Climate Change Theatre Action festival, read about that here!) offering me a commission with them and the Gabriela Lena Frank Creative Academy of Music to work on two songs with a composer. The composer Aida Shirazi had read my work for the CCTA and thought we'd be a good fit.

We had a wonderful introductory meeting which sparked many ideas making the writing very easy. I was worried that the couple pieces I had written, which were essentially poems, wouldn't work, but one in particular Aida connected to and chose to work on it. She made additional offers of repeating certain lines and of course chose how they would be sung.
